Coach Tom Hundley – 1961-1973, 1987-1998 (Tennessee High School) 

Coach Tom Hundley served as head coach for the Viking football program for 11 years from 1987-1998, earning more victories  than any other football coach in THS history at that time with 74 wins against 43 losses.

Hundley, who was an All-American quarterback at Science Hill and played football at the University of Kentucky from 1957-1960, first came to THS in 1961, where he served as a teacher and football coach until 1973. Hundley was Offensive Coordinator at Tennessee High for the 1971 State Champion football team and the 1972 State and National Championship team. 

Hundley joined the East Tennessee State University coaching staff in 1973 and worked as offensive coordinator for a year before becoming the defensive coordinator through the ’77 season. From 1977-1983, Hundley was the head coach at Science Hill, leading the Hilltoppers to the lone undefeated season in school history in 1979.

Hundley joined Elizabethton High School in 1986 for a season before returning to THS in 1987.  His overall record as a head coach was 114-67.

Hundley, who passed away in 1999, was inducted into the National High School Football Hall of Fame in 1997 and honored by the Tennessee House of Representatives of the One Hundred First General Assembly of the State of Tennessee with the Senate concurring in 2000.
