1962 Tri-State Champions (Slater High School)

The Slater Wolves recorded a perfect 8-0 season in 1962 under Coach Dorsey Sims, winning the Tri-State title, along with the District 1 championship.

The Wolves captured the Tri-State title, their third straight, over Douglass 17-6 at Municipal Stadium. Fullback Johnny McCurdy scored both touchdowns to lead Slater, which gave him a total of 67 points scored for the season. End Marvin Beidleman scored two safeties for the Wolves.

The talented Wolves outscored their opponents 223-30 over the course of the season, holding opponents scoreless until the fourth game when Morristown West finally got on the board as Slater won 13-6.

Other members of the Wolves were halfbacks Rufus Chadwell, Robert Dickerson, and James White; quarterback Jackson Meade; end Johnny Gudger; tackles Wayne Daggs, Harold Roller, and Samuel Knight; guards Robert White and Henry Wisdom; and center Arthur Henderson.
